Geeking out in San Francisco

The Urban Dictionary describes geeking out as “To spend an amount of time discussing geekish things with other geeks, or to participate in geeky undertakings and pastimes with one or more other geeks.” That about sums up what I’m doing this week while I attend the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. But more importantly, I’m gleaning some new insights into real-world applications of social media, how human behaviour plays into online communities and how social networks and communities are evolving. I have some highlights to share already in posts to follow this one.
So far the folks I’ve met have been a mix of developers, designers, marketing professionals and even government types. We all do different jobs but we all want to get new perspectives on social media.
And yes, if you happen to be at the conference and you see a curly-haired gal tweeting away while taking notes, texting on her iPhone and reading several blogs at once, that geek is probably me.
